I'm currently involved in several Ham Radio programming projects that
manage to keep me, mostly, out of trouble.
- DDUtil
A data decoding utility for Flex
radios. This utility enables Passive Listening devices
equipped with band data decoding circuitry to be controlled by
a Flex radio. These devices include but are not limited
to:
- BCD: Band Switches, Linear Amplifiers
(i.e. Yaesu Quadra), etc.
- RS-232: Amplifiers, Antenna
Controllers (SteppIR), Antenna Tuners (Palstar AT-Auto),
etc.
- CmdrSDR
A small software program that works with
DXLab Commander to furnish transmitter frequency
information to RS-232 Passive Listening devices. This program uses
older DDE technology to communicate with Commander. Since
the inception of DDUtil it is pretty much obsolete but, if
anybody wants to play with it let me know and I'll send it
to you.
- BMUtil
A helper utility for the DXLab DXKeeper
logging program. It allows the addition of all bands and
modes to the QSL queue if desired. This program uses the
older DDE technology also as that's the only way to
communicate with DXLabs.
- CW Decoder
This all started with an assembler program for a Mostek Z-80
that I wrote about 1980. It actually worked pretty well
considering a fast computer was a home brew 2 meg 8 bit with
16 K of ram. That was Smoking back then.
I left Ham Radio in 1982 and didn't return until 2003. With
the advent of the digital world and computers that evolved
during my absence I got enthused with trying to convert this
program into a modern digital soundcard version. Needless to
say this has been a challenge to say the least. Admittedly, most of my time has
been spent getting up to speed on the different programming
languages like C#, .nets and libraries like Port Audio not to
mention trying to learn a little about DSP. Seems like there
is so much to learn there isn't time to work on the original
project.
I'm still working on it but it's not a high priority at the
moment.
